UPM green-lights new 2045 target in energy policy

In a press release about the decision to accept the revised and more ambitious plan, drafted under Wayne Panton as the sustainability minister, the Cayman Islands Government acknowledged that the process needs to move more quickly, especially as it is now targeting 2045 for the transformation to 100% green energy and 70% by 2037.

Infrastructure Minister, Mr Joey Hew, is optimistic this target will be met, helped by the small steps the government is making to promote and use the renewable energy sources in and around the islands.

CUC seeks 100MW of solar energy and storage for 2027

Despite the requirements of the energy policy and the call for Cayman to move much more quickly towards a greener future to meet growing demand, CUC will continue over the next 21 years to use "firm sources" of generating capacity as well as renewables to ensure reliability of the grid.
